Jordan's Chapel UMC in Burgaw, North Carolina

Our God is an Awesome God!!!

On Sunday March 26, 2000 Jordan's Chapel had the privilege of welcoming Rev. Lenier Furr from Jordan's Chapel UMC in Burgaw, NC to speak to us.  He came to offer his thanks to the congregation of Jordan's Chapel in Pulaski for their gift of $3,300 to the people of his community and church to help rebuild after Hurricane Floyd destroyed the area.  He is truly an inspiration and a gifted minister.  The people in Pulaski have developed a true kinship to the people in North Carolina.  He told how our gift actually drilled a well and bought sheetrock and flooring for a family and how the father of the family one month later received Christ into his life.  The children of Jordan's Chapel also sent 120 gifts for the children of his church and community for Christmas.  Santa delivered these gifts, giving these children the best Christmas ever in a time when their lives were turned upside down.

It is truly unique how God brought these two congregations together.  Last fall a plea was given on the Galax radio station of needs in the area of the flood.  Upon making several phone calls, the Lord led us to Reverend Furr and we discovered we have the same name.  Little did we know that while Rev. Furr was on his knees praying for his congregation and community, which was devastated in the flood,  that God would guide those prayers to Pulaski where we would answer the call.

Sunday was enjoyed by all.  We had breakfast with Rev. Furr at the church on Sunday morning where he shared stories and pictures of his church.  He then presented a powerful sermon that touched the hearts of everyone there.  Our youth then invited him to Aldersgate where they shared lunch.  Rev. Furr would like to thank all for the hospitality he was given.

But this is not the end of the story.  We have had people ask to volunteer to go to Burgaw and work in the rebuilding effort for a weekend.  If anyone wants to help, please give either Sandy Hash or Don Breedlove a call.  Many of the residents of this area lost all they owned.  They can use physical help or monetary donations.  To God be the Glory as we answer his call in all things.

Please visit the Kids of the Kingdom Page for a wonderful story relating to our outreach program in Burgaw.
